Home Screening Room - Kill the Messenger, I see a Nightcrawler on this Terrible, Horrible...

New To DVD This Week
By Paul Hall

Another great week on Blu-ray DVD - we are in a sweet spot for releases that appeal to a variety of individuals. From the dark and seedy Nightcrawler to the family friendly Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. The conspiracy based Kill The Messenger, the foreign offering Force Majeure to the HBO mini-series Olive Kitteridge add to a slate that really is ready for you to have a great home theater experience this week. And oh, did I mention the Blu-ray Release of 101 Dalmations? Or Race for your Life Charlie Brown? Well they are both on deck this week too!

If you pick one movie this week … this is it.

Nightcrawler / Rated R / Jake Gyllenhaal, Rene Russo
Lou Bloom has bounced around looking for a job when a traffic accident introduces him to the work of the crime photojournalists known as “nightcrawlers.” He takes control of his destiny and starts shooting the most graphic video sequences he can find and sells the footage to Nina, a morning news television producer. This late-night buffet of incidents gives birth to one of the creepiest yet best performances of the year. (Grade: A)
