2014 Top 10 - 10. Locke

My 2014 Top 10
10. Locke

A film that is a virtual one man show can either grip you or bore you as part of the audience.

Locke is a film that features one individual onscreen for virtually the entire time, and with Tom Hardy in the role of Ivan Locke, it one grabbed me and refused to let go.

Ivan Locke is making a drive to be at the hospital for the birth of a child. But this child is not with his wife, but with someone else.

The car ride has him battling to get a huge construction job he is managing completed.

It also has him discussing life with his son, as well as the soccer match he was supposed to tune into with him.

There's the uncomfortable conversations with his wife.

And of course, communication with the hospital he is traveling to and his soon to be baby's mother and staff.

And even visually seeing just Hardy's side of the conversation, we feel an incredible range of emotions. He delivers a man that has a lot on his mind, and simple phone calls become much more. A truly daring exploration as a one man show, and the one man is perfectly cast with Tom Hardy.
