2014 Top 10 - 4. Nightcrawler

2014 Top 10
4. Nightcrawler

The movie in my top 10 list this year that I truly didn't know what to expect when I sat down in the
theater. Had an early screening of it and simply knew that Jake Gyllenhaal was the main star so it had me at that point. Sitting down, I didn't know whether this would be a fishing movie dealing with night crawlers or what...it is NOT a fishing movie!

What it IS...is an entirely fascinating journey into the seedy underbelly of crime journalism. Gyllenhaal's performance of entrepreneur Lou Bloom is both twisted and frightening yet heart breaking all at the same time.

I literally sat on the edge of my seat for the entire film, waiting to see it unfold before my eyes. I cringed at the graphic nature of items, yet couldn't turn away.

Rene Russo is the best she has been in quite some time as the news producer that is driving the creations of Bloom's enterprise. She delivers a passion for putting on the programming that will garner the most eyeballs possible to compete in the highly competitive LA morning news culture.

I just totally dug this one, from start to finish. There was no other thriller quite like it this year.
